I resently bought a used Skoda. My new lovely car is an Octavia elegance, 1.9 Diesel TDi PD. 14,000+ miles on the clock and as far as I can determine, the oil has never been changed since the initial dealer prep. I am from the old school and regardless of what is claimed by oil companies, I want to change oil and all filters at least once a year. The selling Skoda dealer forgot to include the usual 1 liter of their recommended engine oil so not sure what I should be putting in for oil changes.

The Castrol web site is ambigious stating EDGE 5W-30 is suitable for all vehicles on both variable and fixed servicing EXCEPT VW R5 and V10 engines. VW cars fitted with PD diesel engines on fixed service must use EDGE Turbo Diesel 5W-40 (VW 505.01)

I think my car was set up for extended service (VW 507) but if I want to change to 10,000 miles or 1 year servicing, must the car go through a Skoda dealer to change the service time symbol that appears on the instrument panel ????

Would I have problems if I use Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 Fully Synthetic ?????

Hi, what year is your car? Does it have a Diesel Particulate Filter?

I forgot to mention my car is a 2010 version without the DPF. Not sure if this falls under VW 505.01 or 507.00 spec ????
One last question......if I choose to use a K&N air filter (reuseable type) would I still be covered under WARENTEE ??

Hi, Sorry, never saw a notification for your first reply.

For none DPF vehicles VW 505.01 spec is fine, for vehicles with DPF VW 507.00 must be used.
