Open Question: can cam belt problem cause leaking in the coolant system?

Only couple of weeks ago i took my car to the audi garage to check coolant system as coolant level was going down rapidly. they came out saying water hose was split along with different other problems, that all together cost me £865. Now, today againg coolant was giving red signal. the garage says the cam belt has gone this time needs to be replaced. It is causing the coolant leak. Is that possible? can anyone tell me please? they are asking for £400+
