Open Question: Upkeep of Old Volkswagen Beetle?

Thinking of getting an old vdub beetle, but of course they are 40+ years old now. How much roughly would upkeep, maintenence, mot/repairs etc per year be? Am I right in thinking they are now tax exempt? What insurance band are they? Thanks
